Design thinking exercise

The Company, Whole Bank, started in a small town in Massachusetts. They focus on giving their clients different and innovative ways to manage and save their money, as virtual currencies or app payments.

To ideate a solution for the clients’ payments while traveling, my first step was interview 5 different people to find out the main problems. I found a bit difficult at first to find the right questions, but then I tried to have a more natural conversation, which I think was an important change.

Almost everyone agreed that they would rather use an easy and secure payment method with their phones than going around with cash. Also they found more convenient to have an app to make all their payments (maybe even from different bank accounts) than taking the risk of losing a credit card, or finding too late that it’s not accepted in some shops. The one that preferred cash over cards or app was because of the different currencies and managing an exact amount for that travel.

So I had to ideate a prototype that provided easy and secure payments, the possibility to choose between your different bank accounts, and a wallet where you had put your money before traveling. It had to be clear and show all the vital information and currency conversions.

I found really important the information I got from the interviews, as people are different and we have to take into account all of their necessities. Also they have to feel confident during the interview to speak clearly and with no shame about their habits and points of view.
